Blue Door Kitchen & Garden

Love going to this place. First of all because the staff is amazing as well as the food that they serve. The devils eggs are amazing, as are their trout and jambalaya dishes. The outside patio makes it all complete. Want to call out Daisy and Domenica who are always providing the best possible service. They are phenomenal hosts and true professionals at everything that they do.

I did love this place, great patio and a great menu! My first note was the cocktail, super well balanced and just a fun cocktail! We ordered the braised beef and the duck and those were good but not super great. While both dishes were cooked well, we found that we had to salt a lot of our food. Both my potatoes and green beans didn’t taste of anything at all. However, once we salted them, we tasted way more flavour in all the dishes. Will definitely give it another shot but if it remains the same, not entirely worth the price to me.

Cute little spot. Upscale southern cooking. Came for brunch on a Saturday. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive. Good quality ingredients. I alway appreciate a Chicago restaurant that puts just as much effort in their food as they do to their aesthetics. I was not a fan of the beignets, it was chewy. Next will need to get the Mac and Cheese cause I heard it’s phenomenal! Only issue we had was a constant cold breeze. We sat near the back by the kitchen and the staff kept opening a door in the back that let in a cold breeze (it was 30 deg day). So try to sit near the front if possible.

When it’s cold outside, and I mean REALLY cold, a little “comfort” sure is appreciated and might just be achieved by some “comfort food.” Thankfully @suz1974 pointed us towards the threshold of “The Blue Door.” I expected to be “comforted” by the Fried Chicken, but I was shocked to be equally “comforted” by the Butternut Squash Soup, the Hazelnut Green Beans, and the Deviled Eggs. While I continue to maintain that I’m not a “bread guy”, I was absolutely blown away by the Cornbread. 🤯 Any modicum of surprise on my part is completely unjustifiable considering that Chef Art Smith served as the personal Chef to Chicago icon Oprah Winfrey for a decade. Literally the only sad moment during our meal was when we realized we simply couldn’t eat anymore. 😢 Not even that reality could prevent the involuntarily action of me nearly slapping the hand of the server who was just trying to clear my empty plate. The food was good the chef was amazing great ambiance the patio area was beautiful. Our server she was not attentive to our table but she was to all her other tables she has. But the other guy who was not our server took care of us more than she did. We stopped in because our mother just passed away and it was close by so stopped in if it wasn't for the overall ambiance and his attentive service and the love and care from the chef I would say I wouldn't make a point to come back. But I will because despite her they made our experience good for our 1st time visit and the FOOD WAS AMAZING 😊!! HATS OFF TO THE CHEF 👨‍🍳
